Winsdown Hi Octane was foaled near San Diego, CA in 1992, one of the first foals bred by Winsdown Farms. He was a precocious and fun colt who came up through the Futurity and ASGN programs both as a competitor and as a highly successful sire. He was tied with Supreme Sultan to be the youngest stallion to top Saddle & Bridle's Futurity Sire Rating in 1998 at the age of 6. He held that spot from 1998-2002 and relinquished it to his half brother Winsdown Black Gold in 2003. Hi Octane again topped Saddle & Bridles Futurity Sire Rating from 2004-2007. In 2008 his son Winsdown Westinghouse took over the top spot and became the youngest stallion to top the list at only 5 years old. So Hi Octane will continue his legacy through his son Winsdown Westinghouse.
Hi Octane was a fixture on Saddle & Bridle's General sire rating since 2004. He currently is The Leading Country Western and Country Hunt Sire as well as in the Top 10 in several other divisions on The Saddle Horse Report's Breeder's Report for 2009.
He enjoyed junk food such as Marshmallows and Pop Tarts and didn't like "health Food". He loved visitors and would bow and run and play for them. He was a gentleman in the breeding shed and a joy to be around his whole life.
He sired such stars as CH Ghost Of Gypsy, 2009 National Shatner Working Champion Winsdown Diamond Dee, 2009 National Country Hunt Champion Rose of Windhaven as well as top Futurity stars such as Winsdown Fifth Avenue, Winsdown Wilkinsburg, and Winsdown Point Breeze etc. His colts were known for their wonderful personalities, fair play attitude and "can do anything versatility".
Winsdown Hi Octane suffered a fatal heart attack at 3 AM on November 14, 2009. He will be sadly missed and his son Winsdown Westinghouse will have some big shoes to fill. He is buried at Winsdown Farm next to his sire Pride Of Ridgefield.
